Area Updates
Please see below for
details regarding conditions throughout our service area…
Southwest South-Central, and Central Kansas, North-central
Oklahoma, Panhandle of Texas: Lucas Newell, Farm Manager, Dodge City, Kansas,
reports: This area has seen some rain over the
last couple of weeks, but for the most part it is still dry. The wheat is
being harvested in Texas and Oklahoma with mixed results. Texas wheat is not good as they saw very
little rain this spring and the Oklahoma crop has seen test weights in the 64
lb. range. The Kansas wheat crop is wide spread from decent in the southern
part to above average in the northern part even with some hail damage on the
crop.
The spring crops are struggling but with the recent rains should
prevail as long as we can keep them alive through the hail season.
For additional information, please contact Lucas Newell, AFM, at (620) 225-5445 or email lnewell@farmersnational.com.
West-Central and Northwest Missouri and East-Central Kansas: Greg
Frankenbach, our Accredited Farm Manager (AFM), in Liberty, Missouri,
reports: Spring planting was delayed over most
of northwest and central Missouri and there are a few farms that have not
been able to plant corn this spring. Most of this area is in the process of
planting beans and are currently delayed by heavy rain and flooding in low
lying areas. There is quite a bit of replant intended for the flooded areas
if the ground dries out. For
additional information, please contact Greg
Frankenbach, AFM, at (816) 407-7461 or email gfrankenbach@farmersnational.com.
Iowa/Illinois, Larry Greiner, AFM,
Iowa City, Iowa, shares his thoughts on the
conditions in his area: There is, and will continue
to be significant low land flooding in the Iowa, Cedar, Wapsipinicon, and
Mississippi River valleys. The northern Cedar River has started going down
while the Iowa River from Iowa City to the Mississippi is at historically
high levels. Water continues to flow over the Coralville Reservoir at a
record pace. Recent reports today
indicate that the Iowa River at Iowa City will not recede to the levels of
the 1993 flood until June 24. I learned the Iowa River levee at Oakville was
breeched on June 14. Significant cropland flooding is occurring and flooding
from the Mississippi was occurring east of Muscatine in Illinois. Farmers
were hurrying to empty grain bins and there is concern that the levee south
of Burlington on the Greenbay Bottoms may fail as well.
There are still probably 20% of the soybeans to be planted. Some
corn acres have not been planted and most of the corn that has been planted
is showing yellow spots. Nitrogen
loss is certainly a factor in many fields.
The Mississippi River is high enough that the majority of river
grain terminals are not able to load barges. The market basis is wider than
normal. Please feel free to
contact Larry Greiner, AFM, at
(319) 351-1066 for additional information or email lgreiner@farmersnational.com.
Illinois/Indiana: Accredited Farm Manager Russell Hiatt in our
Danville, Illinois,
office reports: Our area from Valparaiso, Indiana
to Danville, Illinois has not received a lot of the severe flooding and by
comparison to other areas we have been spared. The ponds and wet areas are
damaged but the recent warm weather and sunshine have really turned the crops
around. Corn is growing good and taking on more of the dark green color as
opposed to the yellow water stressed color. Field moisture is good and we
finally finished up with soybean planting. Current weather outlooks are good.
Overall crop conditions are presently good with slight downward
adjustment of yields due to early planting delays and water stress. Please contact Russell
Hiatt, AFM, at (765) 385-2266 for additional details or email
rhiatt@farmersnational.com.
Central and Southern Ohio: Jay VanGorden, AFM,
Marysville, Ohio, reports: Crop conditions
are widely varied through the western half of Ohio. Corn was planted in late
April and early May in most of central Ohio with the northwest portion of the
state not getting corn in until near Memorial Day. Soybean planting has
ranged from early May in some areas to some still not planted based on
rainfall amounts. Most areas of the state have had to replant soybeans due to
the cool and wet conditions in mid May. Heavy rainfalls two weeks ago caused
some areas to be replanted a second time and beans planted in late May to early
June required replanting in spots, also.
Crop conditions are very good in some areas to fair or worse in
areas hardest hit by rains. The best looking crops are those put in late April
and the first few days of May that were able to get up and growing. For additional
information, please contact Jay VanGorden, AFM, at (765) 385-2266, ext 305, or
email jvangorden@farmersnational.com.
Mid-South: Bill Shannon, our Accredited Farm Manager
(AFM), in Jonesboro, Arkansas, reports: The Mid-South
had a very wet spring which delayed corn, rice, cotton, and Group 4 soybean
planting. Most of the intended acres for all these crops were eventually
planted in late May and some cotton, corn, and rice intended acres went to
soybeans. Crop conditions for all crops are now generally good, just behind
schedule.
Some areas have turned dry in June and need rain before soybean
planting can be completed and widespread irrigation is starting on all
emerged crops. Winter wheat harvest is past the halfway mark with generally
good yields. Soybeans are expected to be double cropped behind wheat on most
acres. For
additional information, please contact Bill
Shannon, AFM, at (870) 933-9700 or email bshannon@farmersnational.com.

Missouri Knights of Columbus Hall, the Diebold family property will be sold
at a multi-parcel auction. The property stretches over 700 acres in Scott

The entire acreage has been parceled into what will be offered
